Can planets have different shapes?
Planets can actually be triangular, or square, or even pentagonal in shape in theory. And in principle they can also be donut shaped too, with a hole in the middle – a stable configuration though one that is easily disturbed so there probably aren’t that many donut shaped planets in the universe :).
What if Earth had a highly elliptical orbit like mercury?
17. What if Earth had a highly elliptical orbit, like Mercury? (20\%) What would be different about Earth and life on it? With a 20\% eccentricity, the solar heating would vary from 64\% to 144\% of average.
Why are there no seasons in Jupiter?
Jupiter, like Venus, has an axial tilt of only 3 degrees, so there is literally no difference between the seasons. However, because of its distance from the sun, seasons change more slowly. The length of each season is roughly three years.
Are there planets that aren’t round?
While all the planets in our solar system are nice and round, some are rounder than others. Mercury and Venus are the roundest of all. They are nearly perfect spheres, like marbles. But some planets aren’t quite so perfectly round.
Do planets have to be round?
The Sun and all eight planets of the solar system are round. Why? The gravitational force of a planet’s mass pulls all of its material toward the center, smoothing out any jarring non-roundness. Many of the smaller bodies of the solar system are not round because their gravity is not enough to smooth out their shape.
When was Pluto found?
February 18, 1930
Pluto/Discovered
The object formerly known as the planet Pluto was discovered on February 18, 1930 at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona, by astronomer Clyde W. Tombaugh, with contributions from William H. Pickering. This period in astronomy was one of intense planet hunting, and Pickering was a prolific planet predictor.
What else could create craters?
A crater is a bowl-shaped depression, or hollowed-out area, produced by the impact of a meteorite, volcanic activity, or an explosion. Craters produced by the collision of a meteorite with the Earth (or another planet or moon) are called impact craters.
What planets have 4 seasons?
Earth has four seasons. Most planets do, too. They are called winter, spring, summer and fall….Student Features.
PLANET | LENGTH OF SEASON |
---|---|
Earth | 90-93 days |
Mars | 7 months |
Jupiter | 3 years |
Saturn | About 7 years |
Does Jupiter have storms?
Cyclones and anticyclones Juno revealed that many of Jupiter’s storms are deeper than scientists expected. Some of the storms extended 60 miles (100 km) below the cloud tops and others, including the Great Red Spot, extended over 200 miles (350 kilometers). Scientists had not expected the storms to go quite this deep.
